Ventilate Your Attic Properly

  1. Removes heat from the attic.
  2. Proper ventilation uses intake and exhaust vents to help reduce energy costs by removing the hot air from the attic.
  3. By removing the hot air from the attic, the home is able to stay cooler and the air conditioner runs less frequently. (See testimonial)
  4. All shingle manufacturers’ warranties state that their warranties are voided if proper ventilation is not used.
  5. Removes moisture from the attic.
  6. Proper ventilation removes the moisture from the attic. The attic insulation R-Value indicates the insulation’s resistance to air flow – specifically heat. The greater the R-Value the better the insulation. Moisture will reduce the R-Value of insulation.
  7. Moisture can lead to mold and mildew in the attic.
  8. Moisture can also cause damage to the roof deck.

Proper Attic Ventilation

  1. According to the 2018 IRC Code on Attic Ventilation, the minimum net free ventilating area (NFVA) shall be 1/150 of the area of the vented space.
  2. EXCEPTION: The minimum net free ventilation area shall be 1/300 of the vented space provided both of the following conditions are met:
  3. In Climate Zones 6, 7 and 8, a Class I or II vapor retarder is installed on the warm-in-winter side of the ceiling.
  4. Not less that 40 percent and not more than 50 percent of the required ventilating area is provided by ventilators located in the upper portion of the attic or rafter space. Upper ventilators shall be located not more than 3 feet (914 mm) below the ridge or highest point of the space, measured vertically. The balance of the required ventilation provided shall be located in the bottom one-third of the attic space. Where the location of wall or roof framing members conflicts with the installation of upper ventilators, installation more than 3 feet (914mm) below the ridge or highest point of the space shall be permitted.
  5. Example of a balanced ventilation system:
  6. Attic square footage / divided by 150 = sq. ft. NFVA (net free venting area) needed for a balanced system.
  7. Divide NFVA by 2 = NFVA (net free venting area) Intake and NFVA Exhaust.
  8. To convert to square inches multiply by 144.

Warranty

TWO-YEAR LIMITED WARRANTY

Provided that the Ross 2-IN-1 has been installed in strict accordance with Ross Manufacturing, LLC’s, (Ross) written installation instructions, Ross warrants that its 84 Square Inches Ridge Vent will be free from manufacturing defects during the span of 2 years from original installation date. Manufacturing defects DOES NOT include fading of vents. Fading is common amongst ALL roofing products and fading does not impede function or performance of the Ross Vents. Fading is purely a cosmetic issue. If fading occurs Ross products may be painted with a plastic approved spray paint.

Should any manufacturing defect occur during the 2 year period of the original purchaser (and as long as the original purchaser is still living and retains ownership of the property), Ross will provide replacement material for that portion of the product deemed to be defective (not including labor costs incurred in removing defective vent or installing replacement product). Proper documentation of date of installation and purchase must accompany any claims for warranty.

In the event of replacement according to the terms of this warranty, the original warranty on the replacement material will extend for the balance of the warranty period in effect at the time the vent proved defective.

The 2 year coverage offered by this warranty automatically ends upon the sale of the property or death of the last of the original owners of the property at the time of installation.

The 2 year coverage in this warranty is designed to cover individual homeowners only. In the case of the Ross 2-IN-1 purchased by, or installed upon property owned by, corporations, governmental agencies, partnerships, trusts, religious organizations, schools, condominiums or cooperative housing arrangements, or installed on apartment buildings or any other type of building or premises not used by individual homeowners as their residences, the warranty period will be 2 years following the installation of the Ross 2-IN-1.

Ross reserves the right to discontinue or modify any of its products, including color, and shall not be liable as a result of such discontinuance or modification, nor shall Ross be liable in the event replacement material may vary in color in comparison to the original product as a result of normal weathering. If Ross replaces any material under this warranty, it may substitute products designated by Ross to be of comparable quality or price range in the event the product initially installed has been discontinued or modified.

Warranty Claims

All claims should be directed to a Ross Representative (info@rossmfg.com). DO NOT REMOVE the Ross vents, removal of vents will immediately void warranty. Ross will coordinate an inspection of the vent complaint once the customer has approval from builder or home owner for access to the property. Proper documentation of purchase from a distributor must be provided to Ross®. Once inspection is complete, Ross will determine resolution to complaint.

OTHER CONDITIONS

THIS WARRANTY IS EXPRESSLY IN LIEU OF ALL OTHER ORAL OR WRITTEN WARRANTIES, LIABILITIES OR OBLIGATIONS OF ROSS. PERTINENT STATE LAW SHALL CONTROL FOR WHAT PERIOD OF TIME SUBSEQUENT TO SALE A CONSUMER/HOMEOWNER MAY SEEK A REMEDY PURSUANT TO THE IMPLIED WARRANTY OF MERCHANTABILITY OR FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE. IN NO EVENT SHALL ROSS BE LIABLE FOR CONSEQUENTIAL OR INCIDENTAL DAMAGES OF ANY KIND, INCLUDING ANY DAMAGE TO THE BUILDING, ITS CONTENTS OR ANY PERSONS THEREIN, RESULTING FROM THE BREACH OF ANY WARRANTY SET FORTH HEREIN. Installation Instructions

Applicable for Roof Vents

Installation of the Ross 2-IN-1 Ridge Vent should comply with all local standards and regulations.

Before beginning a job, determine how much ventilation is required. The NFVA (Net Free Venting Area) of the eave/intake vents should be equal to or exceed (no greater than 60%) that of the Ross 2-IN-1 Ridge Vent. Improper balancing of the system could result in weather infiltration. The Ross 2-IN-1 Ridge Vent is designed for use on roof pitches ranging from 2/12 to 12/12.

Important Information

  1. When using the Ross 2-IN-1 Ridge Vent with architectural shingles, caulk between low areas of shingle and external baffle, making sure you don’t plug the weep holes. Cut any excess shingles and underlayment overlapping the hole and seal the edge of the hole with a sealant (such as roofing cement) ensuring that water is unable to penetrate the hole under the shingles or roofing underlayment. Ross does not warranty leaks from water penetrating under shingles or roofing underlayment.
  2. Run the Ross 2-IN-1 Ridge Vent from end to end to give the roof a more attractive appearance.
  3. For truss construction, cut a 1″ slot on each side of the ridge starting a minimum of 12″ from the rake edge of the roof. For roofs with a ridge pole cut a 1″ slot on each side of the ridge pole starting a minimum of 12″ from the rake edge of the roof.

12″ Cap Shingle

  1. Using a chalk line, mark 1″ on both sides of the ridge (1″ beyond ridge pole) as a guide for cutting a slot in the decking.
  2. Cut slot using a circular saw with the blade set at a depth to cut through the decking only. Seal the edge of the hole with a sealant (roofing cement).
  3. Center the Ross 2-IN-1 Ridge Vent over the opening that has been cut in the ridge, ensuring that the RV support pegs sit flat on the roof. To ensure proper alignment along the ridge, run a chalk line down both sides of the ridge.
  4. Using the 3″ x 0.120″ diameter roofing nails provided, install the vent starting from the outer edge moving inward. Be sure to use the 12″ nail holes to properly secure. For aesthetics, we recommend having the female end facing the edge of the roof.
  5. As you install more pieces of the RV, ensure that each piece is joined together using the male/female connectors.
  6. Cut the final piece to a length long enough so that it is flush with the edge of the roof. Ensure that the self-closed end cap is facing out to prevent weather infiltration. (Interlocking feature will not be used on final piece.)
  7. Install the cap shingles using the nails provided in the “shingle nail line” area for cap shingle installation as indicated on the Ross 2-IN-1 Ridge Vent.

10″ & 9″ Cap Shingle

  1. Repeat steps 1-2 from 12″ instructions.
  2. The Ross 2-IN-1 Ridge Vent has a groove on the vent, take a utility knife and score the length of the RV in the groove of the cut/break line. For 10″ application score one groove; for 9″ application score both grooves. Once you have scored the underside, bend the external baffle at the groove and remove the external baffle. (One baffle for 10″ and both baffles for 9″).
  3. Overlap the removed external baffle (one baffle for 10″ and both baffles for 9″) onto the body of the RV by simply inserting the 12″ nail support into the 9″ receiving nail hole.
  4. Using the nails provided, install one side of the RV, starting from the outer edge moving inward, then bend the RV over the ridge and install the other side. If gaping occurs at the point where the external baffle meets the shingle, caulk between low areas of shingle and external baffle, making sure you don’t plug the weep holes.
  5. Repeat steps 5-7 from 12″ Instruction.
